Help with the ISS Monitor website and the ISS Monitor menu-bar app for macOS.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ISS Monitor macOS app?
A free menu-bar app for macOS that shows live telemetry from the International Space Station: altitude, cabin pressure, cabin temperature, total mass, and consumables tank levels (urine, waste water, clean water). All data comes from this site (issmonitor.com).
Where does the data come from?
Cabin pressure, temperature, mass and water-tank levels stream from NASA's public ISSLIVE Lightstreamer adapter. Altitude and ground track come from wheretheiss.at. Everything is served through the same /api/data endpoint the macOS app reads.
How often is the data refreshed?
The website collects fresh telemetry every minute. The macOS app polls every 60 seconds. Tap the menu-bar icon then “Refresh Now” to force an immediate update.
Which metric does the menu bar show?
Whichever one you pick. Click the menu-bar icon, choose any metric in the list, and that value (e.g. altitude, cabin pressure) will be shown next to the satellite glyph in the bar. The selection is remembered across restarts.
Can I switch between metric and US units?
Yes. The menu-bar app has a toggle: metric (km, mmHg, °C, kg) or US (mi, inHg, °F, lb). Tank levels are always shown as a percentage.
The app shows “Server unavailable” or no data. What can I do?
First, check that you have internet access and that issmonitor.com loads in a browser and shows live data. If the site is up but the app stays empty, quit the app from the menu-bar and relaunch. If the problem persists, please email us with your macOS version and the message the app is showing.
How do I enable Launch at Login?
Click the menu-bar icon and toggle “Launch at Login”. macOS may ask for permission the first time. You can also manage this in System Settings → General → Login Items.
What macOS versions are supported?
macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer. The app is Apple Silicon native.
Is the app free?
Yes. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads.
Does the app collect personal data?
No. The app only makes anonymous HTTP requests to issmonitor.com to fetch the public telemetry data. It does not send any user identifiers, analytics, or telemetry of its own.
